yesterday i was finalizing my concentration and i have to take one out! :( i think i am decided that i will take out this one.
i already have two for "happiness" and i think we decided that we liked the one of my brother's face laughing better than this one. also, it doesn't really look like she is being freed because of the big railing in front of her.

here is mr z's face. i snapped it at little talbot island and it actually turned out pretty well. i like the colors in it. it didn't even need any editing. normally i'm a crop-maniac.

i took this at my brother's baseball game a while ago. i like it because it is in film and i like the aesthetic it gives the photo. it's hard to think but it was sooo cold at this game not long ago.

today we went to little talbot island! it was a BEAUTIFUL day and i took a lot of pictures of animals and the landscape. i liked this one in particular because i actually got close enough to this bird to take it and most of it is in the frame. i also really like it because although the actual bird isn't at an angle where you can see it's body, the shadow is almost a perfect silhouette of what the bird looks like. i like how clean and crisp the shadow is on the sand.

i took this picture on my cruise. actually we were waiting in line in one of the stateroom floors just to get off the ship to go home. i pulled out my camera and just started shooting. i really like the lighting that this one overhead light makes. i like the silhouette of my mom's face and the glowing sign on the right in the background. i think it turned out very technically sound for just being in a cruise ship lobby.

this week i have been developing film and i hope that i have some good shots from those. i shot my dad for the "anger" picture that i needed and i hope its something that works for my project!
but in the meantime, i've still been messing around with some of the other film pictures i took last weekend. this is one of them. i took several of this same shot and i'm going to edit it to look like everything around her is moving but she stays still in this world of her own. it is supposed to be like depression but i already have enough shots for that so we'll see how it compares to my existing shots.

i took these over the weekend. i was focusing on someone who is feeling disconnected from the world. i dont know it this one does the greatest job portraying this but i like how it's ice cream. who doesn't want to be in this ice cream parlor? yet the subject looks un-engaged

continuing with the food theme, this week i am going to shoot the weekly meal that i make for my family. i am going to try to make it look good before my family goobles it all up but if they are in the process, that's okay too. i like the half-eaten look... it's homey.

so i recently saw this on the internet and really liked it.
i've been on kind of a cooking streak lately where i am just cooking up a storm every chance i get.
looking at this photo of something as simple as the breakfast table brought up a lot of pleasant feelings. i like how the colors are a little faded, it almost looks like film. i like how there aren't any people in this photo but it still looks occupied by a presence. obviously you can see that people have been here and left the remnants of what looked like a really fun meal with the family. i think what just really gets me about this photo is that it represents what food and mealtime is supposed to mean in society: the family gathering around together and enjoying a fresh, home-cooked, delicious meal and this photo captures that without even having people in it. i also like how all of the elements in this photo are spaced out. it gives a sort of off-centered, disheveled look. i think it would be really cool to do this with film, but maybe color film since i would be shooting food. i don't want the black and white to make the food look unappetizing. i'll have to think about different ways to portray all of these feelings without having people in the photo but also without coming from this angle each time.

So with all this talk about film, and me not having any to do in the dark room :( It got me thinking about what I would like to shoot. We've all seen these typical family portrait from maybe the 1920's where some of the people aren't smiling and you kind of just wonder what was going on both in their heads and I'm their lives by the look on their faces. This type of photography always reminds me of film because it is so old timey feeling and people these days don't take family portraits quite like this. If I have the time and resources I think it would be really cool to re-create se photos like these with families. Shooting in film and setting it up to have that 1920's feeling but the people are all in their modern day clothes, etc. just a thought.

this was really the only successful picture from my holga roll that i took last week. they were all really fuzzy and i dont know why. i really don't like not being able to see what im shooting (aka film) but i need some in my project so im going to take some more this weekend.

i want to maybe take a picture like this for my "anger shot. i really like the black and white and i might add a possible red tint. it would be in the place of the picture of coach bland.

Friday, January 25, 2013

so i think for one of my photos that has to do with freedom i am going to do something with this. i want to maybe photoshop someone's mouth blowing air out at the wing like takeoff. i still have to think about the variations i could do.

this is one of the unedited pictures that i have for my concentration. it represents loneliness.
